Cambridge 16 Test 2 Writing 1

2023年3月3日

You have just read an article in a national newspaper which claims that town centres in your country all look very similar to each other. You don’t fully agree with this opinion.

Write a letter to the editor of the newspaper. In your letter,

  • say which points in the article you agree with
  • explain ways in which your town centre is different from most other town centres
  • offer to give a guided tour of your town to the writer of the article

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Red is good words.

Dear Sir or Madam,

I’m a loyal reader of the New York Times. I read the article in the newspaper of June 18, which claims the town centers in the US are all alike. I’m afraid the editors didn’t take my hometown, Irvine, into account.

First of all, I agree with certain points that your column says. For example, all main squares have commercial buildings, including boutiques and restaurants. Government buildings are nearby. The same goes for Irvine. This layout makes sense as after people are done with businesses they can go shopping in the town center.

However, what makes Irvine distinct is that we have many trees and lawns at our town center. Families and friends have picnics on the lawns on sunny afternoons[1], chilling out/cheerful/jaunty. The demos of Irvine love greenery and are proud of the trees all over the city. In addition to the greening, in the middle of the city town sits a small roller coaster park for office workers to relax after a full week’s busy work. An amusement park in downtown is not so common in metropolis where the citizens have to drive far away to urban areas for entertainment.

If you are interested in publishing an article on Irvine, CA, please come and see, and feel the beauty of our town center. I have been living here for many years, and it will be my pleasure to give you a tour. I will drive and take you to the town center, Dana points, the spectrum marketplace, and suchlike points of interest. I attach my contact below.

Best regards,

Jason Cho
